Free EU CBAM Calculator for Steel Imports

What could EU default values add to a tonne of your imported steel?

Built for EU steel importers, buyers and traders, this free calculator estimates CBAM costs using EU default values. Choose a product, origin, tonnage and import year to get an estimate; no sign-up is needed.

4 to 8 digits, e.g. 7208 or 7208 39 00. Iron and steel, CN chapters 72–73.

EU default values only. Nothing you enter is stored.

How it works

Choose a supported CN product code, country of origin, net tonnes and import year. The calculator looks up the European Commission’s default emissions value and adds the yearly markup. It then subtracts the free-allocation adjustment, based on the product benchmark and CBAM factor for that year, before multiplying the remaining emissions by the certificate-price assumption shown with your result. This is a planning estimate: supplier data, an eligible carbon-price deduction in the country of origin and your annual de minimis position can change the amount due.

When to use the paid CBAM Cost Check

  • Compare EU default values with your supplier’s verified emissions.
  • Assess multiple products, suppliers or import lanes together.
  • Get a PDF report for finance and customs teams.

For a supplier-specific review, see the CBAM Cost Check (€490/€990).

Frequently asked questions

Is this my final CBAM bill?

No. This is an estimate using EU default values and the displayed certificate-price assumption. Your final declaration depends on the applicable rules and verified information for your imports.

Why does the country of origin affect the estimate?

The Commission publishes different default emissions values by country and product. For default values, the country and product can also determine which production-route benchmark is used for the free-allocation adjustment.

Could my supplier’s actual emissions be lower or higher?

Yes. Verified supplier data can differ from the EU default. A supplier-specific review can compare the verified figures with this estimate.

Which certificate price does the calculator use?

It uses €82.32 per tonne of CO₂e, the Commission’s Q3 2026 CBAM certificate price published on 5 October 2026, as a reference for all selected years. Future certificate prices may differ.

Does this include the steel safeguard or quotas?

No. This estimate covers CBAM only. The EU steel safeguard ended on 30 June 2026 and was replaced from 1 July 2026 by Regulation (EU) 2026/1384. Quotas and other trade measures are separate; check the Steel Trade Measures Tracker.
