Week of 2 Nov 2026Price · Contracts
EU mills want €100–150/t more for 2027 coil; the market expects €50–80/t
Market participants expect 2027 contracts to settle about €50–80/t higher, and import quotas and CBAM have taken away most of the cheaper import alternative.
Affects: Automotive suppliers, EU flat buyers, Service centres
Availability · Landed cost
More than half of the EU's Q4 duty-free steel is gone, and every open flat-steel pool is shut
For buyers of hot-rolled, cold-rolled, coated and plate, duty-free supply until 31 December depends on a few named countries; steel imported outside a quota pays a 50% duty.
Affects: Importers, EU flat buyers, Service centres
Price · Supply
US sheet sits about €410/t above EU coil, but the 50% US tariff closes the gap
The 50% US Section 232 duty closes almost all of that gap, so for EU mills the high US price is not an export opening.
Affects: EU flat buyers, EU mills, Exporters
Timing · Logistics
Rhine barge steel deliveries likely stay on part loads into mid-November
If the federal forecast holds, part loads and low-water costs are likely to last into mid-November for buyers taking steel by barge on the Middle and Upper Rhine.
Affects: Rhine-served buyers, Service centres, Forwarders
